Project Overview

The completion of the Kitchen and Dining construction at Dolphin Magic School marks a significant milestone in enhancing the school's infrastructure and improving the daily experiences of students and staff. This project was made possible through generous support and donations from Friends for Nepal, Himalayan Development Aid, and in coordination with William Beazley from the USA and Land Salzburg Austria. This collaborative effort has transformed the dining experience, ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more organized environment.

Background and Need for the Project

Before the construction of the new kitchen and dining area, lunchtime at Dolphin Magic School was chaotic and unmanageable. The lack of a proper sitting area and an inefficient lunch distribution system led to a messy and unsatisfactory dining experience. With over 200 students and more than 37 staff members relying on the school's facilities, there was an urgent need for a structured and hygienic dining environment.

Project Details and Implementation

The new kitchen and dining area now serve the entire school population, providing a comfortable and clean space for meals. The construction included several key components aimed at enhancing both functionality and hygiene:

Industry-Standard Kitchen Facilities

• Chimney and Ventilation: The kitchen is equipped with an industry-standard chimney, ensuring proper ventilation and maintaining a smoke-free environment.
• Utensils and Washing Area: The utensils used are of high quality, and the washing area is designed to facilitate easy cleaning, ensuring that hygiene standards are upheld.
• Flooring and Furnishing: The flooring is of top-notch quality, resistant to spills, and easy to clean. The kitchen furnishings are robust and designed for heavy-duty use.
• Cooking Range and Refrigeration: A safe cooking range has been installed, minimizing risks associated with open flames. Additionally, the kitchen boasts the best fridge and chiller, keeping food items fresh and safe.

Hygienic Dining Space

• Drinking Water System: A proper and safe drinking water tap system has been installed, ensuring easy access to clean water for everyone.
• Washing Areas: Dedicated separate washing areas have been created for younger and older children, making it easier to manage and maintain hygiene.

Handmade Furniture and Quality Materials

• Tables and Benches: All tables and sitting benches in the dining area are handmade by the school, promoting a sense of community and craftsmanship.
• Doors and Windows: The doors and windows are made from industry-standard UPVC materials, providing durability and safety.

Storage Facilities

• Dedicated Store Room: A well-furnished store room has been dedicated to the kitchen, ensuring that food items and groceries are kept fresh and are easily accessible.
